Undergraduate opportunities
Renishaw offers the following placement schemes for students prior to graduation:
Gap (prior to university) and industrial placements (during university)
The gap year and industrial placement programmes offer students a year of worthwhile paid work experience on real projects, before or during university. These placements often lead to successful working relationships between graduates and Renishaw.
Individuals are able to work on exciting real projects such as:
- Jig and fixture design and build
- CNC programming of complex components
- Opto-mechanical system design
- Introduction of new products into manufacturing
For the gap year: Entry for a gap year role follows the completion of A-Level (or equivalent) studies, and where a University place has been gained, but deferred for a year in order to gain experience in an industrial environment.
For our gap year and industrial placement opportunities, we are looking for individuals who are currently studying one or more of the following disciplines: Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Optical Engineering, or Physics. Logical thinkers with a pro-active approach are required, along with excellent organisation and communication skills, and individuals who can be team players.
Positions are available at a number of sites in South Gloucestershire, with easy access to the M5 and Bristol. Having your own transport is essential.

Holiday placements
These are mainly offered to students during the summer holidays for periods of between 8 and 12 weeks. In addition to a competitive salary, students have the opportunity to develop good practical engineering skills, which will prove invaluable throughout any engineering career.

Bursaries
Renishaw offers a number of bursaries each year to help support students whilst at university. These are awarded annually to students committed to developing their careers with Renishaw.
Graduate opportunities
Graduate opportunities exist at Renishaw for those who are qualified with a 2:2 degree or above in one or more of the following disciplines: Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Optical Engineering, or Physics. Logical thinkers with a pro-active approach are required, along with excellent organisation and time management skills. Individuals should also be able to show an aptitude for self discipline, outstanding communication skills, and the ability to be a good team player.
At Renishaw new graduates join the company as Graduate Engineers and remain so for approximately one year. During this time they will be moved around the company in order to gain experience in many disciplines and environments, with training structured to match the needs of the individual and the company.
Limited opportunities are also available for graduates to work in Finance, Marketing, Sales, IT, Purchasing and other support departments within Renishaw.
On successfully completing the initial year, graduates normally move into their first formal appointment. At any time during their employment with Renishaw, engineers may apply and work towards Chartered status. The company fully supports this through a mentoring scheme and funds the membership of one professional body for each employee.
