Senior Development Engineer

A position has arisen within the Computer Aided Engineering team who are responsible for all aspects of CAD/CAM/PLM development at Renishaw.  The team is now seeking an individual to develop our CAM applications to support best practices in machining, improving user efficiency and to provide central access to manufacturing data.

The key outputs and deliverables of this position are as follows:

  • CAM development to maximise on new functionality/features, templates and post processors.
  • CAM support for over 80 users and 5 different machine tool classes.
  • Preparing and delivering internal CAM training courses.
  • Development of Teamcenter manufacturing to provide a digital environment for production engineers.
  • Evaluating, testing and planning for Teamcenter/NXCAM upgrades.

In addition the individual will be required to work closely with the design and manufacturing functions, to support the design for the manufacture process, and ensure that all CAM activities are fully integrated into the ‘engineering value chain’.

Qualifications and expertise:

All applicants are required to have the following:

  •  Education to HNC/degree level (or equivalent) with expertise in mechanical and/or production engineering.
  • A working knowledge of Siemens NX CAM and Teamcenter.
  • A proven knowledge of CNC programming and machining preferably in Milling and Mill Turn.

Although not essential, it is desirable if applicants have the following:

  • Familiarity with GibbsCAM and Vericut.
  • Practical expertise in Mazak machine tools.
  • An understanding of Renishaw probing techniques.

Person specification:

Applications Engineer

Renishaw are currently seeking an individual to demonstrate CMM products and provide customers with training and product knowledge.  This position offers the opportunity to work with the latest developments from Renishaw in CMM sensor technologies,  and to demonstrate its revolutionary 5-axis scanning solutions.

The key outputs and deliverables of the role are as follows:

  • To prepare and deliver customer product demonstrations
  • To provide customers with training in the use of Renishaw equipment
  • Supporting existing customers
  • Interaction with Renishaw development engineers regarding the use of new equipment and software

Qualifications and expertise:

All applicants are required to have the following:

  • Thorough knowledge of metrology principles, particularly when applied to the use of a CMM
  • Practical expertise in the use of CMM metrology software
  • A comprehensive understanding of mechanical drawings including dimensional tolerancing

Production Engineer

Renishaw are currently seeking a Production Engineer to support the assembly operations in the Encoder Products Division (EPD).

The key outputs and deliverables include:

  • The design and implementation of assembly and test processes for volume manufacture of Electro/Mechanical and Electronics products
  • Analysis of and solution to electronic and mechanical related problems on  optical/electronics/mechanical assemblies
  • Working closely with Design Engineers in order to optimise designs for assembly
  • Analysis of and solutions to problems relating to the assembly process (eg, identifying weaknesses in these processes and initiating the appropriate actions)
  • Collecting data and investigating non-conformances to initiate corrective actions to  achieve the division’s quality targets
  • Supporting production on their daily targets and leading Production Technicians to ensure smooth assembly processes
  • Training others as and when required

Qualifications and expertise:

All applicants are required to have the following:

  • A background in jig and fixture design, including build and prove out
  • The ability to work with staff from other disciplines 
  • The ability to be project orientated and be capable of managing small projects

Senior Optical Engineer

Renishaw are currently seeking to recruit a Senior Optics Engineer to work as part of our Group Engineering team.  We are seeking an innovative electro-optics design engineer, who has the ability to develop their knowledge to solve problems and provide effective solutions in the development of key optical metrology projects.
The key outputs and deliverables of the role are as follows:

  • Reporting directly to the Optical Systems group leader, the successful applicant will primarily perform the optical/electro-optic design function within a small multi-disciplined team working on proof of principle and development of a wide range of new high performance optical metrology products and sub-systems.
  • In addition to the optical design work, subject to the individual’s current knowledge and willingness to develop in these areas, there will be the opportunity for the successful applicant to apply multi-disciplined skills to provide software, electronics or data analysis to support and run the lab trials and evaluations.
  • Towards the latter stages of selected projects, the individual will provide technical support either to the Product Division which will ultimately market the product or directly with Production as appropriate.
  • Occasionally, the individual will work directly with the Product Divisions on current product developments either to provide optical design support or consultancy as necessary.

Qualifications and expertise:

All applicants are required to have the following:

  • A minimum of three A levels (or equivalent) at A – C grade including one science based subject.
  • Design level knowledge of visible optics components such as diode sources, compact lasers, bulk optics, modulators, isolators, diode detectors in addition to a solid appreciation of the design principles underlying at least some of the key optical metrology systems including encoder, interferometer, imaging, topography, tomography, spectrometry etc.
  • Familiarity with geometric optics, physical optics and optoelectronics to at least degree level.

Although not essential, it is desirable if applicants have the following:

  • Qualification to degree level or higher (or equivalent) in physics or engineering
  • Knowledge of how to set up and use PCs to log and analyse both data and video.

Person specification:

The successful applicant will have an analytical mind, well suited to solving problems and researching new concepts.  The individual will fundamentally be a team player, who will often need to work independently on specific tasks but have the ability to effectively interface and coordinate their efforts with that of the team.  A hands-on approach to lab work, and confidence with designing, preparing and running trials and experiments, will be an advantage.

Scale Assembly Technician

Renishaw are currently seeking to employ a Scale Assembly Technician to support the production of linear scale and accessory products.

The key outputs and deliverables of the role include the following:

  • Ensure that preventative maintenance tasks are carried out on all key equipment to an agreed schedule
  • Carry out periodic calibration of designated equipment to defined standards
  • Complete acceptance testing of new products, processes or delivered items, completing reports when necessary

Leading Plant Maintenance Engineer

Renishaw are currently seeking to recruit a Leading Plant Maintenance Engineer.
Reporting to the Plant Maintenance Manager, the role requires the successful candidate to work as part of a 3 shift plant maintenance operation with the responsibility for the day to day supervision and performance of a team of multi skilled Plant Maintenance Engineers working predominantly on Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machine tools.

The key outputs and deliverables of the role include the following:

  • Responsibility for the quality of engineer workmanship/performance in terms of time, quality and accuracy including job feedback 
  • Demonstration of good problem solving skills and ability to communicate these skills to a shift team
  • Monitoring the quality of the fault and defect analysis processes of the shift team
  • Ability to produce concise accurate reports for the supervision team
  • Liaison with the Machine Shop management team in terms of production plant and equipment performance issues
  • Stock utilisation responsibility for the shift team
  • Direct supervision of day to day operations when no Senior Engineer is present on shift

  • An ONC/City and Guilds or equivalent in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

Maintenance Engineer

Renishaw are currently seeking to recruit a Plant Maintenance Engineer who will be required to work as part of a 3 shift plant maintenance operation.  Reporting to the Senior Plant maintenance Engineers, the successful individual will be responsible for the day to day maintenance and repair of Renishaw production plant and equipment, working predominantly on Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machine tools.

The key outputs and deliverables of the role include the following:

  • Delivering quality workmanship performance in terms of time, accuracy and job feedback
  • Demonstrating good electrically biased machine tool job knowledge and diagnostic skills
  • Accurately assessing and communicating fault diagnostic issues and corrective actions to the supervision team

Production Engineer

Renishaw are currently seeking to recruit a Production Engineer to work within the Manufacturing Services Division (MSD).  The purpose of the role is to support the growing requirement for high quality plastic components for all new product divisions.

The key outputs and deliverables of the position are:

  • To focus on the engineering of injection moulded parts
  • Liaising with design teams to ensure plastic components meet the application requirements and can be cost effectively manufactured. This will include the use of simulation software to optimise designs and ensure development times and costs are minimised. Close partnership will be maintained with the proto-typing teams at New Mills to develop components and processes for full production
  • To work with our purchasing teams and suppliers on both mould tool and component designs
  • Working with the Stonehouse engineering and production teams to ensure smooth handovers of new processes into production
  • As the engineering of plastic components is a developing area, it is expected that the successful candidate will also support other engineering activities within the department as business needs dictate

Qualifications and expertise:

Senior Software Engineer/MR Physicist

Renishaw are currently seeking to recruit a Senior Software Engineer/MR Physicist.  This position has recently become available with the purpose to further develop Neurological Planning Software, with specific reference to Image Processing and MR (Magnetic Resonance) Imaging capabilities.

The key outputs and deliverable of this role are as follows:

  • Research and development into cutting edge image processing techniques
  • Providing full concept feasibility reports of these techniques
  • Delivery of components (in c# or Matlab) that implement these image processing techniques
  • Providing full design documentation and helping the coding team in the integration of these components into the main Neurosurgical Planning Software, creating requirement specs when necessary
  • To provide knowledge of MR. This includes MR Physics and experience of using MR Systems, with a view to improve MR Imaging for our software

Qualifications and expertise:

All applicants need to have the following:

  • To be educated to at least degree level in Maths, Physics or another related engineering discipline
  • Proven expertise in the field of image processing/MR Imaging
  • A background in MR Physics/Maths
